Springboro Community Assistance Center is working with the Springboro Community City School District and City of Springboro to serve families and students while the schools are closed for the next three weeks.
“Based on what we know today, we have created this plan,” said Wendy Ford, SCAC Executive Director. “This is a rapidly changing situation and we urge everyone to watch our Facebook page and website for additional updates.”
SCAC will change from its usual twice-monthly choice pantry to providing boxes of food to families at three different locations in the city.
Beginning Monday, March 16 the distributions will be:
- Mondays from 3 to 5 p.m. outside the SCAC facility in the Educare building next to Springboro Junior High School, 1605 Main St. Both perishable items and boxes of food will be distributed at this location.
- Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. outside Springboro First United Methodist Church, 60 E. North St. Boxes only.
- Fridays from 6 to 7 p.m. outside the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 125 E. Central Ave. Boxes only.
All residents are required to show proof of residency in the Springboro School District and may only receive one box per week. Records will be kept.
In order to limit contact, residents picking up food are asked to stay in their car and drive to the designated area. At the designated area, one person should exit the car to retrieve the box of food.
Each box should last one week, Ford said, with some perishables being donated by the school district. Residents with unusual circumstances that prevent them from visiting one of the three sites, should call the SCAC at 937-572-6488.
“We expect an influx of new families including people who have never made use of a food pantry before,” Ford said. “We ask everyone to be patient and generous during what is a difficult time for all of us.”
Ford thanked community members who reached out early offering to help and said volunteer opportunities are available. Interested volunteers should contact her at wendyford63@hotmail.com. Monetary donations are also needed and can be made online through the SCAC Facebook page or mailed to P.O. Box 1042, Springboro, Ohio 45066.
