“If you feel blessed yourself, you help others.”

Linda Lester is just one of a dedicated group blessing SCAC with hours of service each week.

Under the direction of inventory manager Heather Gosselin, the group convenes every other Monday to stock shelves, sort food, assemble goody bags and do whatever needs done.

“Our favorite thing to do is whatever Heather tells us,” jokes Linda’s husband Phil Lester.

Some members of the group have been volunteering for several years, others are new and all have bonded over their service.

“I look forward to it,” said Dennis Ditmer. “I’ve met new friends.”

Gretchen Broadwell who has worked in social services professionally, said she knows how blessed she is. She brings her 12-year-old son to help as well.

“I bring my son sometimes because I want him to know how blessed we are,” she said.

Gosselin works to maintain up to date inventory in the SCAC and rotates items to make sure everything is used to help someone.

“We have need in Springboro, but we also have a lot of giving,” she said. “I want to utilize everything that comes in in the best way possible. I don’t want things expiring on our shelves.”

Gosselin added that the shop-like atmosphere of the SCAC is purposeful. Many of those served are in situational poverty and have a hard time admitting they need help.

“It’s really about helping the community you live in,” said Debbie Starace.
