Our Story
In 2007, as the U.S. economy fell into recession, the staff at Springboro Schools began noticing that many families were struggling. Initially, school staff—including Mental Health Coordinator Wendy Grothjan and Superintendent Dr. David Baker—took it upon themselves to shop, cook, and deliver meals to those in need. As the demand grew, the Springboro Community Assistance Center (SCAC) was established to better serve the community.
Originally housed at Clearcreek Elementary School, the SCAC expanded and relocated to the former Jonathan Wright Elementary School on Florence Drive. By 2016, with growing support and the need for additional space, the SCAC moved to its current location in the Educare Building, next to Springboro Junior High School.
Our Mission
The SCAC partners with Shared Harvest to provide backpacks filled with nutritious food for students on free and reduced lunch programs. We collaborate with various community organizations, including the Springboro Community City School District City of Springboro, Clearcreek Township, Springboro Police Department, Clearcreek Fire Department, and local churches such as Springboro United Church of Christ, Covenant Presbyterian Church, and more. Additional supporters include the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Supporting Our Families
At the SCAC, our doors are always open to families in need. We provide access to resources that help foster self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life for all family members. Many of the families we support face challenges like layoffs, single parenthood, or inadequate wages—circumstances that deeply impact children’s ability to succeed in school and thrive within the community.
